Chapter One Look Inside

“Heard you need a driving partner.”

My heart drops into my stomach when I hear the sexy, low voice behind me.
I whip around and look up into the face of a tanned, blond man in a tuxedo.

He stares at me for a beat.
“I’m Caleb Walker.” He smiles and extends his hand. “You must be Paris Sorelli.”

I’m too busy staring at his face to shake his hand.

He looks familiar somehow…
When I see his diamond-stud earring, I shriek.
It’s him.

Tuxedo guy is the man in the subway station who thought I was a sex worker.

His gray eyes brighten.
“You remember me too,” he says.
I glare at him.

“Of course you would remember, considering you misappropriated me.”

He clears his throat. “Paris, we had a misunderstanding. I never thought you were looking to get paid…for anything.”

“Then why did you call me a sex worker?”

Caleb runs both hands through his beautiful blond head of hair. “I didn’t call you a sex worker.”

“You did.”

“Did not.”

“Did!” I exhale. “Sorry. Forget it. I can’t possibly ride in a car with a man anyway, especially one who thinks I’m…”

Caleb catches my wrist gently as I go to walk away.
And the skin he’s touching tingles.

It freaking tingles.

“Paris, listen to me.” Caleb drop his hand and looks intently into my eyes. “I had a photo shoot scheduled with a woman that day, and we were supposed to meet inside the Charles Street T station. She said I could find her at the corner. The shoot was set up very discreetly because she wanted to surprise her husband.”

Ohh.

“She wasn’t posing nude, but she wanted the pictures to be sexy and personal,” he explains. “She was nervous about the whole thing, and told me specifically not to identify myself as her photographer until she’d given me the okay.”

My face goes hot with embarrassment as I start to understand.

“So when I asked you if this was the right corner, I was being careful about not giving anything away.”

“Oh Lord.” God, I want to disappear into the ground.

Caleb shakes his head. “I feel like an ass about it, and I can certainly see how you misinterpreted. I’m sorry I upset you.”

“Apology accepted.” I swallow. “And yes, that’s not my profession. I’m a bartender on Charles Street, and I was heading to work that day. You seemed like you knew me for some reason, and that threw me off.”

He swallows. “I saw you once before that. At a wedding reception in Boston.”

He was at Cali’s wedding?

“I would have noticed you if you’d been there,” I say.

He smiles like this pleases him. “I wasn’t a guest. One of my photographs was hanging in the banquet hall, and the concierge brought me in to see it.”

I blink.
It can’t be…

“I happened to walk in when you were looking at the photo.”

“The trailer surrounded by wildflowers?” I feel slightly dizzy. “You took that?”

He nods. “I was driving through Texas a while ago. Couldn’t help but pull over when I saw it.”

“It’s a stunning photo,” I say with raw honesty.

His eyes flash with emotion. “Thank you. That means a lot.”

“It made me feel like I was home again.”

“You’re from Texas?”

“Born and raised.”

He extends his hand again. “How about we start over?”

This time I take his hand, but drop it quickly as I stare into his smoky eyes.

“I can split gas and accommodation fares with you,” he says easily.

This is never going to work. I cannot share a room with a guy. No way in hell.
Especially not this guy. Not only is he hot, but he also looks like he plays make believe for a living. Just the type of faker I always fall for. Used to fall for. The new Paris Sorelli doesn’t fall for any guy. She’s independent. And strong. And single.

But as I keep staring into his eyes, I no longer trust myself.
